Hello, on this page we will update the weekly activities at Rushmore and also document ideas that have happened at home. If your child has come up with ideas for the set design, costume, music or dance then please click on the comment box below and we will publish your thoughts. We can upload images or sounds that you would like to contribute as stimuli for the various artists working on the production.

We hope this page becomes a way of parents staying in touch and capturing the conversations that happen around the project activity….

If you have anything you want to email us, please do so at education@kieransheehan.com…….

Week 4:

SO here are the results of the first day of the residency – let us know if you think we have captured the children’s ideas well. We are currently showing – growing, suffocating astronauts, lonely rabbits in space, a black hole, deers in space, inside the rocket……

Week 1:

The week was very successful the children seemed to enjoy the process and took part in the work very keenly. They created their own movement and then used the language we had discovered in class to comment on the performances. This week we looked at DYNAMICS such as ‘jerky’ and ‘sudden’. When working with Fiona they moved onto action words such as pushing, pressing and gliding. This work is loosely based on the Laban Efforts of Action Drive that the company use in all of their outreach and education work.

The children explored their own journey and then an aspirational journey just like Bob, the man on the moon – who we are using as a frame work for the creative exploration.

Next week we are going to start looking more directly at the role of the choreographer and how bodies can be used to create atmospheres.

  1. My child (Cosmo) is really enjoying the process of working with you and the mix of creative work you have involved them in. It’s great to hear him using new concepts and vocabulary connected with dance and movement, and to hear about the successful collaborative teamwork with other children and the adults. It is really exciting that the children have been supported to develop confidence and clarity in expressing ideas to direct the dancers and musician. Yesterday’s highlight for Cosmo was using a lot of glue straight from the bottle! A bit random – but expressive of his delight in being actively involved in creative work. I can’t wait for the performance!
