Jude, a University drop out/busker is forced to return home to the pain of the past in Whitby where the town and society’s attitudes to Vampirism have changed beyond all recognition.
Both the Vampire Movement and the Watchers (canines) have bred and evolved and once again humanity is tested to the max. Can he lay the ghosts of his past to rest and move on?

A story of love, passion and denial.

“Face your demons, Jude! – can’t you just ignore the ghosts of the past?”

Paul and Kieran Dance Theatre present the North West tour of My Name Is…

Paul and Kieran Dance Theatre are a new organisation committed to the production of innovative dance theatre exploring the nature of addiction and journey of recovery.

My Name Is…. their first production has been supported by Arts Council England and developed through an extensive research and development process with Trust The Process rehabilitation centres and The Bridge Oasis Centre.

My Name Is… explores the world of a father and a son tested by the devastating demands of addiction. The production presents the hopelessness of addiction and the enlightenment of recovery, allowing the audience to consider the life of alcoholic adults and those that witness the powerful process of escaping drugs and alcohol. The story will follow snatches of conversation between a father and son living with the dilemma of addiction. Using a blend of naturalistic performance and heightened contemporary dance, My Name Is… describes the culture of addiction through a sophisticated language of performance unique to the company.

Performances will take place at Edge Hill University’s Rose Theatre on 28th April, The Jerwood Dance House on 6th June as part of Pulse Fringe Festival and The Brindley on 25th June 2010. Times and ticket prices vary – for further email emily@paulandkieran.com OR Paul Bayes – 07801 478 548

Hello, on this page we will update the weekly activities at Rushmore and also document ideas that have happened at home. If your child has come up with ideas for the set design, costume, music or dance then please click on the comment box below and we will publish your thoughts. We can upload images or sounds that you would like to contribute as stimuli for the various artists working on the production.

We hope this page becomes a way of parents staying in touch and capturing the conversations that happen around the project activity….

If you have anything you want to email us, please do so at education@kieransheehan.com…….

Week 4:

SO here are the results of the first day of the residency – let us know if you think we have captured the children’s ideas well. We are currently showing – growing, suffocating astronauts, lonely rabbits in space, a black hole, deers in space, inside the rocket……

Week 1:

The week was very successful the children seemed to enjoy the process and took part in the work very keenly. They created their own movement and then used the language we had discovered in class to comment on the performances. This week we looked at DYNAMICS such as ‘jerky’ and ’sudden’. When working with Fiona they moved onto action words such as pushing, pressing and gliding. This work is loosely based on the Laban Efforts of Action Drive that the company use in all of their outreach and education work.

The children explored their own journey and then an aspirational journey just like Bob, the man on the moon – who we are using as a frame work for the creative exploration.

Next week we are going to start looking more directly at the role of the choreographer and how bodies can be used to create atmospheres.

A work in progress sharing of Fallen took place in November 2008 at Greenwich Dance Agency. The piece is being developed throughout 2009.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Fallen tells the story of Angelique, a refugee who has lost everything she once cherished. Hers is a story of self preservation and how sometimes in order to survive in the present, you must confront the ghosts of the past. Treading a fine line between fantasy and reality Fallen shows us how strange the world looks when you are alone and far from home.

Fallen has been in development since 2008 and was presented as a work in progress during Musical Futures at Greenwich Dance Agency in September which Kieran co-directed with Vicki Amedume. Further development work will be undertaken in 2009.

A full touring version will be ready in the Spring of 2011.

Fallen is made by Upswing for whom Kieran is an associate artist. Upswing takes the approach that serious, everyday and cultural issues can be explored in an entertaining way through circus and that it is important to engage with people on many levels – visually, emotionally, intellectually – to exploit circus’ full potential as an art form. The combination of physical skills and cultural contexts to tell stories is what has helped them garner a formidable reputation both in the UK and overseas.
